Commitment of a Disciple
Being a disciple requires a personal commitment to God. ofen it is easir o say that we ill commit than it is to actualy commit. Salvation does mot make us a disciple.
Philippians 2:12
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
I have devoted a separate page to each of the following seven areas:
1. Salvation – Your salvation is first because without salvation you cannot be committed to God, and actually not really committed to anyone or anything else.
2. Assurance of Salvation – Once you are saved the enemy tries to convince you that you are not. You have to understand what salvation is and be sure that you are saved.
3. Baptism – As a disciple, your obedience to the will and the word of God begins with baptism.
4. Church Membership – No man is an island unto himself. We need each other in order to be victorious. It is in the local body where we get the support, help and encouragement that we need to stay in the battle.
5. Reaffirmation of Lordship (Re-dedication) – Sometimes we are overwhelmed by life and we move away from God. But just like the father was standing looking for his prodigal son, so is our Lord looking for us. Come on back home.
6. Commitment to the call of God on your life – This is why you are here! Don’t you want to do the thing that you were created to do? The disciple of the Lord, Jesus stands and says “Here and I Lord, send me”
7. Toward Christian Maturity – If we don’t move forward, then we move backward because we are always moving. The goal of the disciple is to be perfectly furnished unto all good work. Capable of doing whatever God needs done in order that He would be glorified.
